Welcome to the Social Cognitive Systems Group

Research group of the Faculty of Technology and the Center for Cognitive Interaction Technology (CITEC) at Bielefeld University, headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stefan Kopp.

Mission

Modern A.I. systems excel at many tasks, but lack essential capabilities for interacting and cooperating with other intelligent beings. Our group investigates how A.I. systems can achieve the level of social, interactive and cooperative intelligence that is required for successful human-agent collaboration or teamwork. This research brings A.I., Cognitive Science and Human-Agent/Robot Interaction together: We study human cooperation and communication, and develop A.I.-based models for similar behavioral and cognitive abilities, including Theory of Mind, collaborative decision-making, nonverbal communication, or multimodal dialog. These models are applied and tested in novel human-agent interaction scenarios with socially assistive robots, conversational agents or collaborative A.I. agents .
